# Podcast import is paused or failed

Resolve feed validation errors and a paused or failed import with retry, skip, or delete.

Use this article when the import form rejects your feed URL, or when the import status page shows **Paused**, **Retrying**, **Finished with errors**, **Failed, no audio** or a failed import.

## Protect your work

* Do not delete a paused import. **Retry** and **Skip episode** keep the episodes that are already imported.
* If the import created a new podcast, a deletion of the import also deletes that podcast permanently.
* While a first import runs, the podcast is read-only. The page reads **Your podcast is being imported**, **Progress: ... of ... episode(s)** and **You'll be able to edit this podcast as soon as the import is complete.** Wait for the import to finish before you edit the podcast.

### Find the cause

1. If the form did not accept the feed, read the validation message under **Feed URL**.
2. If the import started, open the import status page. It lists your active imports under **Your Podcast Import Status** and the finished ones under **Import History**.
3. Check the email from Podigee. For a paused import, Podigee sends an email that names the affected episode and the media address that it could not load. For a failed import, Podigee sends an email with the reason.
4. Use the status to select the recovery path below.

![Your Podcast Import Status page in the classic view with the Your Imports card reading No active imports and the Start another import button](https://2032417310-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbqUKO6lljHGzkEAzliPI%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-2a557080318f384a9b0a926fc3607c34cfabf455%2Fdoc-hosting-013-classic-import-status.png?alt=media)

The import status page lists active imports that need attention; here no import is running.

### Recover

#### If the feed URL is rejected

The form validates the feed while you type. When Podigee can import the feed, the form shows **Feed is valid** with the number of episodes and the total duration. Possible rejections:

| Message or reason | What to do |
| --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| The URL is not valid | Copy the complete feed address including `https://` from your current host. |
| **The URL does not contain a valid podcast RSS feed** | Use the RSS feed address, not the podcast website or a directory link. |
| The feed is not accessible | The host answered with an error. Confirm that the feed opens in a browser, then try again. |
| The feed is locked | The feed declares that it must not be imported. Unlock it at your current host first. |
| **This podcast is already hosted on Podigee...** | The feed belongs to a Podigee podcast. No import is needed. |
| An import for this feed is already running | Open the running import from the status page. |
| **You've already imported this feed into a podcast. Please pick that podcast...** | Select that podcast under **Target Podcast** instead of creating a new one. |

![Import podcast form in the classic view with the Feed URL field, example feed addresses, the Target Podcast select, and the Platform URLs options](https://2032417310-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbqUKO6lljHGzkEAzliPI%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-271debf9b211c362a1c85d071e3bca68ff26daf2%2Fdoc-hosting-013-classic-import-form.png?alt=media)

The import form validates the address in the Feed URL field and lists example feed addresses under it.

#### If the import does not start

* **The system is currently busy. Please try again later.**: the import queue is full. Try again later.
* A message about the daily limit: one account can start a limited number of imports per day. Try again later.
* The import option is not available: an import needs a paid plan or a current plan. In an organization, only an administrator can start an import. Podcast editors cannot import.

#### If the status is "Paused"

An episode has a media file that is missing or temporarily unavailable at the old host. Podigee retries a paused import a limited number of times.

1. Select **Retry** when the old host is reachable again.
2. If the media file is missing permanently, select **Skip episode**. The import continues with the next episode.

#### If "Retry" is refused

* **Only failed imports can be retried.**: the import is not failed or paused. Wait for the running import.
* When no pause retries remain, Podigee no longer offers **Retry**. Use **Skip episode** or delete the import.

#### If the status is "Finished with errors" or "Failed, no audio"

**Finished with errors** means that the import ended, but some episodes could not be imported. **Failed, no audio** means that no episode with an audio file was found. The form states **Episodes that don't have an audio file will be skipped**.

1. Open the podcast and compare the episode list with your old host.
2. Create the missing episodes and upload their audio files manually.

#### If the import failed completely

1. Read the failure email for the reason (locked feed, audio preparation error, or a general error).
2. Fix the cause at the old host where possible, then select **Retry**.
3. If the import stays failed, delete the import. Podigee offers **Delete** only for canceled imports, for imports with no retries left, or after three failures. If the import created a new podcast, the deletion also deletes that podcast permanently.

### Expected result

The import status page shows the import in **Import History**. The podcast opens with the note **Your podcast data has been imported** and the new feed address. Set up the redirect from your old host to that address and close the note with **Acknowledge and close**.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Podigee workspace" %}

1. Open the **Import a show** page from the **Import an existing show** card when you add a new podcast.
2. Enter the feed address in **RSS feed address**. Select the target under **Which show should these episodes go to?**, and select **Skip episodes that don't have an audio file** if needed.
3. Select **Check this feed**. A feed that cannot be imported returns a message, for example **This address did not provide a readable podcast feed. Check the RSS feed address.**, **The source feed is locked for import. Unlock it at your current host, then check again.**, **This show is already hosted on Podigee, so it cannot be imported.**, or **This account has reached its import limit for today. Try again later.**
4. After the import starts, open it under **Show imports** with **View import**, and use **Refresh status**.
5. A paused import reads **Import needs your attention**. Select **Retry import** or **Skip this episode**. A failed import reads **Import needs repair**. Each of **Retry import**, **Skip this episode**, **Stop import**, and **Delete import** opens a confirmation page.
6. If the page reads **This import has been retried as many times as it can be, so retrying is no longer available.**, select **Skip this episode** or **Delete import**.

![Import a show page in the Podigee workspace with the RSS feed address field, the target show list, and the Skip episodes that don't have an audio file checkbox](https://2032417310-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbqUKO6lljHGzkEAzliPI%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-aa948de00ae9afdd360f7cce93f1b80e5036e7e8%2Fdoc-hosting-013-import-form.png?alt=media)

The import form checks the feed in a separate step with Check this feed.

What is different:

* The feed is checked with **Check this feed**. The form does not validate the address while you type.
* A paused import reads **Import needs your attention**, and a failed import reads **Import needs repair**.
* **Retry import**, **Skip this episode**, **Stop import**, and **Delete import** each open a confirmation page.
* There is no **Your podcast data has been imported** note and no **Acknowledge and close**.
  {% endtab %}
  {% endtabs %}

## Contact Podigee Support

Collect the feed URL, the name of the old host, the import status, and the paused or failed email. Do not send passwords of your old host. See [Find help and contact Podigee Support](/documentation/start-here/start-here/find-help-and-contact-support.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.podigee.com/documentation/connect-and-administer/troubleshooting/podcast-import-is-paused-or-failed.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
