# Clone or redirect a podcast

Copy a podcast with its settings and episodes, or redirect its feeds and website to a new host.

Use this task to copy a podcast within your account. Also use it to point the feeds and the website of a podcast to a new host when you leave Podigee. Both actions are on the **Podcast settings** tab.

## Before you start

* You must be the owner of the podcast, or an organization owner or admin.
* The current Podigee plans include podcast clones. On an older plan, a clone is available only when the plan includes it. The clone counts as a new podcast against the podcast limit of your plan.
* For a redirect, have the new feed address and the new website address from your new host. Enter complete addresses, for example `http://podcast.example.com` or `http://podcast.example.com/feed`.

### Clone a podcast

The clone dialog explains that the copy is not published, gets a random web address, receives its episodes in the background, and does not receive the redirects.

1. Open the podcast and select the **Podcast settings** tab.
2. Under **Data operations**, select **Clone podcast**.
3. Read the dialog.
4. Select **Clone now**.

The clone dialog explains what the copy contains before you select Clone now.

Expected result: Podigee opens the **General** tab of the new podcast with the notice "Podcast successfully created. Now you can add some more details." The clone has the name "\[title] - copy", a random web address, and the unpublished state. The clone contains the podcast information, the cover image, the website settings, the podcast collaborators, and the text snippets. Podigee copies the episodes in the background as MP3 episodes. Podigee does not copy redirects, contributors, the published state, or platform-specific connection data.

### Redirect a podcast to another host

The dialog **Podcast redirect** compares **Staying with Podigee** with **Check before you move** and states what can change for your feed, analytics, distribution, and support.

1. Open the podcast and select the **Podcast settings** tab.
2. Under **Redirects**, select **Begin the process**.
3. Read the dialog.
4. Select **I understand that redirecting my podcast can affect analytics history, distribution, and feed control.**
5. Select **Proceed**.
6. Enter the new addresses:
   * **`<itunes:new-feed-url>`**: the new feed address. Podigee writes it into the feed so that podcast apps and directories switch to the new feed.
   * **New feed (MP3) URL**: the address that the Podigee MP3 feed redirects to.
   * **New feed (AAC) URL** and **New feed (OPUS) URL**: only for older podcasts that serve these formats. The field **New feed (OGG) URL** does not apply to any feed that Podigee serves. You can leave it empty.
   * **New blog URL**: the address that the Podigee website redirects to.
7. Save.

The redirect dialog compares staying with Podigee against a move before you can proceed.

Expected result: The Podigee feed contains the new feed address, and requests to the Podigee feed answer with a permanent redirect to the new feed. Requests to the podcast website answer with a permanent redirect to the new website.

### If you cannot complete the task

* The clone dialog shows **Upgrade required to clone this podcast** ("Podcast cloning is not included in your current plan..."): select **View upgrade options**.
* The clone fails because of the podcast limit: delete a podcast that you no longer need, or upgrade your plan.
* The **Redirects** or **Data operations** section is missing: you are not the owner or an organization admin.
* Podigee rejects an address: enter a complete address that starts with `http://` or `https://`. Each field accepts up to 2000 characters. Leave a field empty to keep that address without a redirect.
* You set a redirect by mistake: clear the fields and save. The Podigee feed and website answer normally again.
  {% endtab %}

{% tab title="Podigee workspace" %}
The workspace can clone a podcast. The redirect to another host is not available in the workspace.

1. Open the podcast and select **Settings** in the sidebar.
2. On the **Advanced** card, select **Open advanced**.
3. Read the card **Clone this show**: "A clone takes the show details, artwork, collaborators, and text snippets into a new show with its own address. The original stays unchanged. Channel connections and analytics history are not included."
4. Select **Review clone**.
5. In the confirmation dialog, select **Create a clone**.
6. Wait while the card shows **Cloning episodes**. When it shows **Show cloned**, select **Open the cloned show**.

![Advanced settings of a show with the Alias card and the Clone this show card](https://2032417310-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbqUKO6lljHGzkEAzliPI%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-ec085cd3f8afb9f08db49820b013356924266b35%2Fdoc-hosting-003-alias.png?alt=media)

The Clone this show card on the Advanced settings page; here the plan has no room for another show.

What is different:

* The clone action is on the **Advanced** settings page, not under **Data operations**.
* A review step comes before the copy: **Review clone**, then **Create a clone**.
* When your plan has no room for another podcast, the card shows "Your plan has no room for another show. Delete a show you no longer need, or move to a plan that includes more." with **Compare plans**.
* The redirect to another host is not available. Switch to the classic view to redirect a podcast.
  {% endtab %}
  {% endtabs %}

## Next step

After a clone: [Edit podcast information](/documentation/create-and-publish/hosting-and-management/edit-podcast-information.md) to set the web address and title of the copy. After a redirect: [Delete a podcast](/documentation/create-and-publish/hosting-and-management/delete-a-podcast.md) only when your new host serves the podcast and the redirects are no longer needed.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.podigee.com/documentation/create-and-publish/hosting-and-management/clone-or-redirect-a-podcast.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
