Use this tutorial to create a new podcast in Podigee. It uses the guided wizard and ends with an unpublished podcast that is ready for its first episode. You do not need an audio file yet. ## What you will complete At the end of this tutorial, you will have a podcast with a title, description, authors, cover image, web address, language, and categories. The podcast is not public until you publish its first episode and then the podcast itself. ## Before you start * You need a Podigee account whose plan allows one more podcast. Each plan includes a number of podcasts. A collaborator plan, an expired trial, or a paused subscription cannot create a podcast. * In an organization, only the organization owner or an admin can create a podcast. The podcast then belongs to the organization owner. * Decide the podcast title, a short description, the author names, and up to three categories. * Optional: prepare a square cover image. Open the wizard 1. Open the podcast overview in Podigee. 2. Select **Create a new podcast** ("Set up a new podcast. Expected result: The page **Create new podcast** opens. The sidebar lists the four steps **Title, Authors & Description**, **Cover & Domain**, **Language & Categories**, and **Preview**. If a message about the podcast limit of your plan opens instead, your plan does not allow another podcast. Delete a podcast that you no longer need, or upgrade your plan. #### 2. Enter the title, authors, and description 1. Enter the podcast title. 2. Enter the authors. 3. Enter the description. 4. Select **Continue**. Expected result: Podigee creates the podcast as a draft and opens the cover step. From now on the podcast exists in your overview, even if you close the browser. #### 3. Choose the cover image and the web address 1. Choose one of the two cover image options: * Use the cover generator: select a color and enter a custom text of up to 30 characters. * Select **Choose an image from my computer...** and upload your own image. The image must be smaller than 2 MB. Podigee recommends a square image between 1400x1400 and 3000x3000 pixels. 2. Enter the web address of the podcast, or select one of the four suggestions that Podigee derives from the title. Use only letters, digits, and hyphens, up to 50 characters. 3. Wait for the message **This website address is available**. If you see **This website address is already taken, please choose another one**, enter another address. 4. Select **Continue**. Expected result: The wizard opens the language and categories step. The web address becomes the address of the podcast website and feeds: `
.podigee.io`. #### 4. Set the language and categories 1. Select the language of the podcast. 2. Select the first category. The placeholder reads **Select up to 3 categories**. 3. Optional: select a second and a third category. A new select appears after each selection. Select **Remove category** to clear a selection. 4. If the podcast contains explicit content, select the explicit content option. 5. Select **Continue**. Expected result: The **Preview** step shows the podcast information you entered. #### 5. Finish the wizard 1. Check the preview. Select **Edit the podcast details** to change a value. 2. Select **Create first episode** to continue with the first episode. Expected result: The podcast page opens. The podcast is unpublished and shows the text "Get your podcast published by publishing your first episode." ### Check your result Open the podcast overview. The new podcast appears under **My Podcasts**. Open its **General** tab. The title, description, authors, cover image, web address, language, and categories match your entries. New podcasts start with an MP3 feed and 500 episodes per feed page. See [Understand your RSS feed](/documentation/create-and-publish/publishing-and-distribution/understand-your-rss-feed.md) for the defaults. ### If the result is different * You want to stop before the end: cancel the wizard and confirm **Would you like to cancel creating this podcast?**. Podigee deletes the draft podcast and releases its web address. * The wizard shows "We couldn't continue setting up your podcast. Please try again.": repeat the last step. If the message returns, note the step and contact Podigee Support. * You entered a wrong value: you can change every value later in the **General** tab. Change the web address only before you publish the podcast. The flow has the steps **Recording**, **Show**, **Episode**, and **Publish**. One form takes the podcast details. ### Follow the tutorial #### 1. Open the first episode flow 1. Select **Shows** in the sidebar. The **My shows** table lists your podcasts with the columns **Show**, **Subdomain**, **Episodes**, and **Last published**. 2. Expected result: The page **Start your first episode** opens on the step **Recording**. The step indicator shows **Recording**, **Show**, **Episode**, and **Publish**. The sidebar lists the new podcast as **New show**. If the podcast switcher shows **Upgrade your plan to create another show**, your plan does not allow another podcast. The flow then stops with **Your current plan cannot create another show.** Delete a podcast that you no longer need, or upgrade your plan. #### 2. Upload the recording 1. Under **Drop your recording.**, drop your file on **Drop your video or audio file here**, or select **Choose a file**. The accepted formats are **MP4, MOV, MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC**, up to 20 GB. 2. Stay on the page while it shows **Uploading your file...** and then **Upload ready**. 3. Under **Draft progress**, wait for the action button. Expected result: The step **Show** opens with the heading **Set up your show.** If you want to enter the podcast details before you have a recording, select **Set up the show first** and then **Open show settings**. Podigee creates the podcast with the title **Untitled show** and opens its **Settings** page. On the **Show details** card, select **Edit details**, and on the **Cover art** card, select **Edit cover**. The recording and the episode follow later in the first episode flow; the step **Show** then shows your saved details for approval. #### 3. Approve the podcast details 1. Enter the **Show title**. 2. Enter the **Description**. 3. Select the **Primary language**. 4. Under **Cover art**, select **Upload cover art** and choose a square image. When Podigee shows a suggestion, select **Use suggestion** or **Keep current**. 5. Select **Approve and continue**. Expected result: Podigee saves the podcast and opens the step **Episode** with the heading **Episode details.** The podcast now exists in **My shows**. If the form shows **Please check the show details**, read the message under it: **Add a show title.**, **Add a short description.**, or **Add cover art.** Complete the field and select **Approve and continue** again. #### 4. Finish the first episode The podcast is complete after step 3. To publish it, continue with the steps **Episode** and **Publish**. See [Publish your first episode](/documentation/start-here/start-here/publish-your-first-episode.md). ### Check your result 1. Open the podcast and select **Settings** in the sidebar. 2. On the **Show details** card, select **Edit details**. The page **Edit show details.** shows your **Show title**, **Description**, and **Language**. Set the categories here: **Primary category**, **Second category (optional)**, and **Third category (optional)**. Then select **Save details**. The workspace shows **Show details saved.** ### If the result is different * You want to stop before the end: select **Cancel episode setup** and confirm **Delete this draft and start again?** Podigee deletes the draft and returns to the upload step. * The upload stops with **Upload failed. Choose the file again.**: choose the file again. With **That file needs a replacement**, your draft is saved; choose another video or audio file. * The form shows **We could not create the show. Please check the details and try again.**: check the details and select **Approve and continue** again. If the message returns, contact Podigee Support. * You entered a wrong value: change every value later under **Settings**. One form takes title, description, language, and cover image. The categories follow under **Settings**. * There is no authors field and no web address step. Podigee assigns a web address automatically. To change it before you publish, use the classic view.
