# Manage podcast feeds

Copy the feed address, set episodes per feed page, recommend podcasts, control imports.

Use this task to find the feed address of your podcast and to control what the default feeds contain. Podcast apps and directories read these feeds. ## Before you start

* You must be the owner of the podcast, or an organization member with the permission to edit podcast information.
* The import lock and the option to disable the default feeds are available only to the owner, or to an organization owner or admin.

### Copy the feed address

1. Open the podcast and select the **Feeds** tab ("Control content feed of your podcast").
2. Copy the address from **Feed link (MP3)**.

The default feed address uses the web address of the podcast: `https://<name>.podigee.io/feed/mp3`. Use this address when you submit the podcast to directories.

Older podcasts that were not created as MP3-only podcasts also show the button **Show alternative feeds** with **Alternative feeds** in the AAC, OPUS, and VORBIS formats. New podcasts are MP3-only and do not show this button. Treat the alternative formats as a legacy option: Podigee redirects every request for another format of an MP3-only podcast to the MP3 feed.

### Set the number of episodes per feed page

1. In the **Feeds** tab, open **Number of feed items**.
2. Select 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 250, 500, 1000, or **All episodes**.
3. Save.

The feed lists the newest episodes first. Podigee offers paged feeds: episodes beyond the selected number are available on the following feed pages. The tab advises you not to set the number too high. New podcasts start with 500.

### Recommend your other podcasts

The section **Podcast recommendations** ("Add one or more of your podcasts to be promoted via the RSS feed") appears only for the podcast owner (in an organization: the organization owner or an admin), and only when at least one other published podcast of the owner exists.

1. In the **Feeds** tab, go to **Podcast recommendations**.
2. In **Select podcasts**, select up to four of your published podcasts.
3. Save.

The feed lists the selected podcasts as recommendations. The podcast website can show them in the section **More from us**. Enable that section in the **Blog** tab. See [Set up the podcast website](/documentation/create-and-publish/hosting-and-management/set-up-the-podcast-website.md).

### Allow or prohibit imports by other hosts

New podcasts are locked: the feed tells other hosting services not to import the podcast. Unlock the podcast only when you plan to move it to another host.

1. Open the **Podcast settings** tab.
2. Go to **Import permission** ("Specify whether other hosts are allowed to import this podcast").
3. Clear **Prohibit import** to allow imports, or select it to block them.
4. Save.

The Podcast settings tab holds the import lock and, in the Danger zone, the option to deactivate the default feeds.

Podigee's own import respects the same lock at the source host. See [Import a podcast from another host](/documentation/create-and-publish/hosting-and-management/import-a-podcast-from-another-host.md).

### Disable the default feeds

This option appears in the **Danger zone** of the **Podcast settings** tab only for the owner or an organization admin whose plan includes custom feeds.

1. Select **Deactivate feeds**.
2. Read the confirmation: "The default feeds provided by Podigee will be disabled. This means that your feed URLs will no longer be available and your podcast will no longer be updated on platforms if you have submitted the default feeds. Personalized feeds will still be available."
3. Confirm.

The confirmation dialog explains the effect on the default feed addresses before you deactivate them.

Select **Enable feeds** to serve the default feeds again.

### Expected result

The **Feeds** tab shows the feed address and the selected number of feed items. The feed contains the selected number of episodes per page, the podcast recommendations, and the import lock state. With disabled default feeds, the default feed addresses answer with a not-found error while custom feeds stay available.

### If you cannot complete the task

* The **Feeds** tab is missing: you do not have the permission to edit the podcast.
* **Podcast recommendations** is missing: you are not the podcast owner or an organization admin, or the owner has no other published podcast.
* **Import permission** or **Danger zone** is missing: you are not the owner or an organization admin.
* You disabled the default feeds by mistake: select **Enable feeds**. The feed addresses do not change.

In the Podigee workspace, the **Feed & redirects** page of the show settings shows the feed addresses. On this page you also set the number of episodes per feed page and the episode numbers, and you turn the default feeds on or off. The podcast recommendations, the import permission, and the custom feeds (create, edit, and delete) are not available in the workspace. Use the classic view for these settings. To change the feed delivery settings, you must have the permission to edit the show. To turn the default feeds on or off, you must be a show administrator, your plan must include custom feeds, and the show must be hosted at Podigee.

### Copy the feed address

1. Open the podcast. In the sidebar, select **Settings**, then select **Feed & redirects**. You can also select **Review feed** on the **Feed and public presence** card of the settings overview.
2. The page **Feed and redirects** opens. Go to the **Feed and website** card.
3. Copy the address from the row **MP3 feed**. The row shows the address as plain text. There is no copy button.

The default feed address uses the web address of the podcast: `https://<name>.podigee.io/feed/mp3`. Use this address when you submit the podcast to directories. The card also shows the rows **Website**, **AAC feed**, **Opus feed**, and **Ogg feed**. The other formats are a legacy option: Podigee redirects every request for another format of an MP3-only podcast to the MP3 feed.

### Set the number of episodes per feed page

1. On the page **Feed and redirects**, go to the **Feed delivery** card.
2. In **Episodes per feed page**, select 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 250, 500, 1000, or **All episodes**.
3. Select **Save feed settings**.

The feed lists the newest episodes first. Older episodes stay available on the next feed pages. Do not set a very high number: the feed can become too large for some podcast apps. When the show has a number that is not in the list, the list also shows this number, and you can keep it.

The Feed delivery card holds the number of episodes per feed page, the episode numbers, and the default feeds.

### Show episode numbers in the feed

The show type decides if you can change this setting. You set the show type in **Show type** on the **General** page. See [Edit podcast information](/documentation/create-and-publish/hosting-and-management/edit-podcast-information.md).

1. On the **Feed delivery** card, find **Episode numbers in the feed**.
2. For an episodic show, turn the toggle on to add the episode number of each episode to the RSS feed. Turn it off to remove the episode numbers.
3. Select **Save feed settings**.

A serial show has no toggle. The card shows "This is a serial show, so your feed always includes episode numbers." Podigee saves only the values that you changed.

### Disable the default feeds

The button shows only when you are a show administrator, your plan includes custom feeds, and the show is hosted at Podigee. The **Default feeds** section of the **Feed delivery** card shows the current state: "Your default feeds are on." or "Your default feeds are off. Podcast apps cannot load them."

1. On the **Feed delivery** card, go to **Default feeds**.
2. Select **Turn off default feeds**.
3. Read the dialog **Turn off default feeds?**: "Your default feed addresses stop working. Podcast apps that use them stop updating your show. Custom feeds keep working."
4. Select **Turn off default feeds** to confirm, or select **Cancel** to keep the default feeds on.

The confirmation dialog explains the effect on the default feed addresses before you turn them off.

To serve the default feeds again, select **Turn on default feeds**. This step has no confirmation.

### Expected result

* After you save the feed delivery settings, Podigee shows "Feed settings saved." The feed contains the selected number of episodes per page and, for an episodic show, the selected episode number setting.
* After you turn off the default feeds, Podigee shows "Default feeds turned off." Each default feed address answers with a not-found error. Custom feeds stay available.
* After you turn on the default feeds, Podigee shows "Default feeds turned on." The feed addresses do not change.
* When the default feeds already have the state that you selected, Podigee shows "Nothing changed. The default feeds already have this state."

### If you cannot complete the task

When Podigee refuses the feed delivery settings, the card shows "Feed settings not saved" with the reason:

* "This show is no longer available to you.": you have no access to this show. Ask the podcast owner to add you.
* "You cannot change the feed settings of this show.": you do not have the permission to edit this show. Ask the podcast owner for the permission.
* "Choose one of the listed numbers of episodes.": the field **Episodes per feed page** shows this message. Select a number from the list, then save again.
* "Serial shows always include episode numbers.": the show is serial. You cannot turn off the episode numbers. To change the show type, go to the **General** page.
* "Your feed settings could not be saved. Check your show details and try again.": Podigee did not save the settings. Podigee can also show a message that names the problem. Correct the show details, then select **Save feed settings** again.
* The card shows disabled fields and "Only people who may edit this show can change its feed delivery.": you do not have the permission to edit this show. Ask the podcast owner for the permission.

When Podigee refuses to turn the default feeds on or off, it shows one of these messages:

* "This show is no longer available to you.": you have no access to this show. Ask the podcast owner to add you.
* "You cannot turn the default feeds on or off for this show.": you are not a show administrator, your plan does not include custom feeds, or the show is hosted elsewhere.
* "The request was not understood. Reload the page and try again.": reload the page, then select the button again.
* "The default feeds could not be changed. Check your show details and try again.": Podigee did not change the default feeds. Podigee can also show a message that names the problem. Correct the show details, then try again.
* The section shows "Only a show administrator on a plan with custom feeds can turn the default feeds off." and no button: you are not a show administrator, or your plan does not include custom feeds. Ask the podcast owner or a show administrator.
* The section shows "This show is hosted elsewhere. Its default feeds are managed by the hosting provider." and no button: the show is hosted elsewhere. Manage its default feeds at its hosting provider.
* You turned off the default feeds by mistake: select **Turn on default feeds**. The feed addresses do not change.
* Podigee shows "Show not found.": you have no access to this show. Ask the podcast owner to add you.
* You need the podcast recommendations, the import permission, or custom feeds: switch to the classic view.
