# Delete an episode

Permanently delete an episode with its media and data and remove it from platforms.

Use this task to remove an episode permanently. Deletion cannot be undone. Podigee has no restore function for deleted episodes. When you only want to hide the episode, use a reversible action.

## Before you start

* You are the podcast owner, or you have permission to delete episodes in the podcast.
* Consider a reversible alternative first:
  * Unpublish the episode to take it offline while you keep all data. See [Schedule or change an episode publication](/documentation/create-and-publish/production/episodes/schedule-or-change-an-episode-publication.md).
  * Remove only the audio file. See [Replace or remove episode media](/documentation/create-and-publish/production/episodes/replace-or-remove-episode-media.md).
* If you want to keep the original media file and the transcript, download them first. ### Delete the episode

1. Open the episode and select the **Episode settings** tab, or select **Delete episode...** in the episode sidebar.
2. Select **Delete Episode**.
3. Read the dialog "Destroy episode - \[episode title]". It asks "Are you sure you want to delete this episode?" and states "This operation cannot be undone." If the episode is published on external platforms, the dialog lists them under "It has been published to these external platforms:" and states "Deleting this episode will also remove it from those platforms."
4. Select **Delete**.

The Destroy episode dialog states that the operation cannot be undone before you select Delete.

### Expected result

Podigee shows "Episode successfully removed." The episode disappears from the episode list, the feed, and the podcast website. Podigee deletes the media files, chapter marks, transcript, comments, and images of the episode, and removes the episode from the listed platforms.

### If you cannot complete the task

* "The episode could not be deleted because cleanup on connected platforms could not be queued. Please try again.": Podigee did not delete the episode. Try again later.
* The delete option is missing or refused: you do not have permission to delete episodes in this podcast. Ask the podcast owner or an admin.
* You deleted the wrong episode: there is no restore. Create a new episode and upload the media again from your own copy.

{% tab title="Podigee workspace" %}
In the Podigee workspace you delete an episode in the **More options** section of the episode page. The workspace deletes one episode at a time. It has no delete control in the episode list, no bulk delete, no duplicate, and no restore. Before you delete, you can download the recording in the **Recording files** section, but only the files that Podigee stores. To keep the transcript, or to work on more than one episode at a time, use the classic view. For a published episode the section also names the reversible alternative below the consequence: "To take a published episode offline without deleting it, unpublish it instead."

### Complete the task

1. Open the podcast and select **Episodes** in the sidebar. Open the episode.
2. Go to **More options** at the end of the episode page.
3. Read the text under **Delete this episode**. It names what a draft, a scheduled episode, or a published episode loses.
4. Select **Review deletion**.
5. Read the consequence in the **Delete "\[episode title]"?** dialog.
6. Type the episode title in **Type the exact episode title**. The hint below the field names the title that Podigee expects.
7. Select **Delete this episode**. The button reads **Deleting** while Podigee works.

The More options section states what deletion removes before you open the dialog.

The dialog asks for the exact episode title before Podigee deletes the episode.

### Expected result

* Podigee shows "Episode deleted." and opens the episode list.
* The episode is gone from the list. Podigee deletes the recording, its transcript, chapters, and comments.
* A published episode leaves the feed and the show website. Connected platforms are asked to remove it where supported. Copies that people already downloaded stay where they are.
* A scheduled episode does not go live.
* There is no restore. Neither you nor support can bring the episode back.

### If you cannot complete the task

* "Only someone allowed to delete episodes of this show can delete it.": the section shows this sentence instead of **Review deletion**. Ask the podcast owner or an admin to delete the episode.
* "The confirmation expired. Close this dialog and open it again.": the page was open for more than one hour. Reload the page, select **Review deletion** again, and type the title again.
* "The episode changed since this dialog was opened. Close it and review again.": someone changed the episode after you opened the page. Reload the page, read the section again, then select **Review deletion** and type the title again.
* "The title does not match this episode.": the typed title is not the exact episode title. Copy the title from the dialog heading and type it again.
* "Connected platforms could not be asked to remove the episode. Nothing was deleted. Try again in a moment.": the episode is still there. Try again in a moment.
* "The episode could not be deleted. Try again.": Podigee did not delete the episode. Try again.
* You want to delete several episodes, or to restore one: the workspace does neither. Use the classic view for a second deletion, and create a new episode when you deleted the wrong one.
