Use this task to add the media file that Podigee encodes and publishes for an episode. You can upload one audio file, one video file, or several audio tracks that Podigee merges into one file. ## Before you start * You are the podcast owner, or you have permission to create and edit episodes in the podcast. * The file uses a supported format and is not larger than 20 GB. See the reference below. * On the current plans (Launch, Starter, Grow, Scale, Creator, Pro, Enterprise, Broadcaster, Network) uploads count against the allowances of the plan of the podcast owner. The audio allowance applies on Launch, and the video allowances apply on every current plan. Open the episode and select the **Media Files** tab. 2. Under **Audio & Video**, drop the file on the upload area, or select it from your computer. To use a file from Dropbox, select **Upload from Dropbox**. 3. Stay on the page until the upload completes. If you leave or reload the page, Podigee cancels the upload. On the **Media Files** tab, set **Upload mode** to **Multi track**. 2. Select **Add file** for each track, up to 8 tracks. Give each track a name and, if you want, a contributor. 3. Select **Submit Audio Tracks**. Use **Edit Audio Tracks** and **Resume editing** to change the list before you submit. Podigee merges the tracks into one audio file before encoding. Multi-track uploads do not import chapter marks or a cover image from the files. Podigee hides the track selector when the episode has a video file, because the audio then comes from the video. ### Upload a video file Every plan accepts a video upload. Podigee extracts the audio track for the normal audio pipeline and keeps the original video for preview and export. These functions are available on every current plan, or on an older plan that includes video podcasts: * the video section of the media tab * the replacement of audio with video * the video renditions for video platforms 1. Upload the video file the same way as a single audio file. 2. Wait while the media tab shows "Audio is being extracted from video...". 3. Optional: open the **Video** section to preview the video, or select **Download Original Video**. To replace the audio of an episode that already has an audio file, open **Replace Audio with Video** and upload the video there. Podigee extracts the audio track automatically, and a published episode stays published. Podigee refuses a direct video upload onto an episode with an audio file. To remove a video, select **Remove video** and confirm **Remove video file**. This operation is irreversible. When the episode is on Spotify, choose **Remove video from Spotify** or **Keep Spotify as-is**. ### Expected result * The media section shows "You can now schedule the publication of this episode." The episode is ready to publish. * For a single audio file that was not uploaded from Dropbox, Podigee imports chapter marks and a cover image from the file's metadata. The chapter marks tab shows "We are importing existing chapter marks from your episode's metadata. Please wait until this process is complete." while this runs. * For a Dropbox file, the tab shows "Dropbox file transfer in progress" until the copy completes. Publication is disabled during the transfer. * For a published episode, the tab shows "You uploaded new audio file(s). Please use the update audio file feature to publish them." See [Replace or remove episode media](/documentation/create-and-publish/production/episodes/replace-or-remove-episode-media.md). ### If you cannot complete the task * "File type is not supported.": the browser checks the file extension. Rename or convert the file to a supported format. * "File is too large. Maximum allowed size is ..." or "The following files exceed the maximum allowed size ...": the file is larger than 20 GB. * "Upload incomplete - the file didn't finish uploading. Please retry.": upload the file again and stay on the page. * "There are too long URLs: ...": the Dropbox link is longer than 200 characters. Rename the file or the folder in Dropbox so that the link becomes shorter, then upload again. * "Couldn't determine audio duration; upload rejected to enforce plan limits.": the file has no readable duration. Re-export the file and upload it again. * "This audio file is ... long. You have ... of audio allowance left before uploads are blocked.": the file exceeds the audio allowance of the plan. * "You have reached the number of video uploads included in your plan for this billing period.": the plan has no video episode allowance left until the shown reset date. * "We couldn't process this video. Please remove it and upload again.": remove the video and upload it again. * "Processing your video is taking longer than usual ...": wait, then reload the page. See [Media upload fails](/documentation/connect-and-administer/troubleshooting/media-upload-fails.md) for more causes. ### Reference: supported formats and limits | Item | Value | | --------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | Audio file extensions | mp3, mpeg, m4a, x-m4a, m4v, mov, mp4, wav, x-wav, flac, aiff, x-aiff, aac, alac, caf, opus | | Video file extensions | mp4, m4v, m4p, mov, qt, mkv, mk3d, avi, ogv, ogg, ogm, webm | | Maximum file size | 20 GB per file | | Multi-track upload | Up to 8 audio tracks per episode | | Dropbox link length | Up to 200 characters | | Chunked upload | Podigee uploads files larger than 30 MB in 30 MB parts | Note on `.ogg` files: Podigee always treats an `.ogg` upload as a video upload. An audio-only `.ogg` file still works. Podigee extracts the audio and skips the video steps. On the current plans, the upload counts as a video episode against the video allowance. When you want the file to count as audio, use another audio format. Note on video processing: Podigee creates a web preview and an automatic thumbnail for each video. The video thumbnail and content rating options appear only when a video platform is connected. The workspace does not upload a file onto an existing episode. Dropbox uploads, multi-track uploads, and the video functions of the media tab happen in the classic view. ### Complete the task 1. Open the podcast and select **Episodes** in the sidebar. 2. Select **New episode**. 3. Drop the file on **Drop your video or audio file here**, or select **Choose a file** and select it on your computer. The drop zone accepts MP4, MOV, MP3, WAV, M4A, and FLAC files up to 20 GB. While you drag a file of another type, the drop zone shows **Use a video or audio file**. 4. Check the **Selected file** card. Select **Replace** or **Remove** to change your choice. 5. Podigee shows "Nothing is published until you review and confirm it." * When the page shows **Episode details are ready.**, select **Review episode details** to open the editor. A video file uses the same card. ### If you cannot complete the task * The card shows "Upload failed. Choose the file again.": select the file again and stay on the page. * Podigee shows "Choose a video or audio file first.": no file was selected. Select a file. * Podigee shows "This episode already has a recording. Open the editor to continue.": the episode has its file. The workspace does not replace it. To replace or remove media, use the classic view. See [Replace or remove episode media](/documentation/create-and-publish/production/episodes/replace-or-remove-episode-media.md). * The page shows **Preparation needs attention.**: the upload is saved, but Podigee could not draft the details. Select **Add details manually** and enter the details yourself. What is different: * One file per new episode. There is no **Upload from Dropbox** and no multi-track upload. * A video file uses the same drop zone.
