Use this task to publish each new episode to a YouTube channel automatically. Podigee offers two YouTube exports on the **Exports** tab: * **YouTube Video** in the **Video** section uploads the video file of each episode to your channel. Use it when your episodes have a video file. * **Youtube** in the **Audio** section uploads an audiogram, a video that Podigee generates from the cover image and the chapter images over the audio. Use it when your episodes are audio only. ## Before you start * You need the owner, admin, or editor role for the podcast, with permission to edit the podcast. * The account of the podcast owner needs a paid plan. The free Launch plan does not include YouTube exports. * **YouTube Video** needs a plan that includes video podcasts, or an older plan that includes it. The **Video** section shows when the plan includes video podcasts, or on an older plan, where the tile offers an upgrade. * The podcast must be published and must not be restricted to invited listeners. * At least one episode must be published. * You need a Google account that manages the YouTube channel. {% tabs %} {% tab title="Classic view" %} ### Enable video features once The **Video** section renders only after the podcast owner or an organization administrator accepts the terms for video features. 1. Open the podcast and select the **Exports** tab. 2. In the banner **New: Video Podcasts!**, select **Enable video features**. 3. In the dialog **Enable Video Features**, select **I understand and want to continue.** 4. Select **Continue**. Other members see **Video features need to be enabled first. Please ask your organization admin or podcast owner to enable them.** ### Connect YouTube Video 1. In the **Video** section, select the **YouTube Video** tile. 2. Select **Connect YouTube Account** and complete the Google sign-in in the popup window. 3. Under **Select YouTube channel**, select the channel. 4. Choose which existing episodes Podigee uploads: **No existing episodes, only new ones**, **Last 10 episodes**, or **All episodes**. 5. Choose the **Default privacy setting** for uploads: public, private, or unlisted. The default is unlisted. 6. Choose the **YouTube category**. The default is **People & Blogs**. 7. Select **Enable**. The tile shows **Pending** while Podigee sets up the channel and then **Published**. From now on, Podigee uploads the video file of each episode when the episode goes live. To upload one episode again, open the episode, and use the YouTube re-upload action on the media tab. Podigee confirms with **Your YouTube re-upload has been queued.** The action works only while the connection is enabled and the episode is publicly live. If you switch to another channel later, Podigee starts a new mapping for the episodes. ### Connect the audiogram export 1. In the **Audio** section, select the **Youtube** tile. 2. Read the YouTube terms of service text. 3. Connect your Google account. 4. Enable **Post to Youtube when new a episode is published**. 5. Choose the privacy setting and the category. The privacy default is private. The tile notes that YouTube by default allows uploads of up to 15 minutes and asks you to verify your YouTube account for longer episodes. After you verify the account at YouTube, confirm with **I verified my account**. From now on, Podigee generates the audiogram after each audio encoding and uploads it. When the plan includes video podcasts and the episode has a video file, Podigee uploads the original video instead. ### Expected result New episodes appear on your YouTube channel with the chosen privacy setting after they go live in Podigee. ### If you cannot complete the task * The **Video** section is missing: the plan of the podcast owner does not include video podcasts, or the video features are not enabled yet. * The tile shows **Please reconnect your Google Account to use the YouTube export.**: the Google authorization expired. Connect the account again. * The podcast owner receives **The connection to YouTube has been disconnected**: YouTube refused further uploads for the day. Connect the account again later. * **YouTube Video** shows **Action needed**: the connection failed. Open the tile to reconnect. The episode shows the upload errors of that episode, for example **Your episode does not have a video file.**, an unsupported format, or a thumbnail that is not 16:9. * The episode page shows **YouTube is not connected for this podcast right now\...**: enable **YouTube Video** first. {% endtab %} {% tab title="Podigee workspace" %} The workspace offers YouTube only while you publish the first episode of a new podcast. The flow has the steps **Recording**, **Show**, **Episode**, and **Publish**. You connect the channel in the **Recording** step and send the episode after the publication. For an existing podcast, the workspace has no YouTube action. Connect YouTube for an existing podcast in the classic view. ### Complete the task 1. In the show selector, select **Add a new show**. The page **Drop your recording.** opens. 2. Drop a video file on **Drop your video or audio file here**, or select **Choose a file**. YouTube needs a video file, for example MP4 or MOV. 3. Wait until the page shows **Draft progress** and **Prepare destinations**. 4. Find the **YouTube** card. It shows **Needs action** and **Set up your channel now. This will not publish anything.** 5. Select **Set up YouTube**. A popup window opens the Google sign-in. 6. Complete the Google sign-in. The card shows **In progress** and **YouTube authorization is being completed.**, then **Connected** and **YouTube is connected. Channel details come before submission.** 7. To skip YouTube for now, select **Connect later** instead. Select **Set up** to open the card again. 8. Select **Review draft details** and complete the **Show** and **Episode** steps. 9. In the **Publish** step, select **Publish episode**. The page **Your first episode is live.** opens. 10. Select **Continue to YouTube**. The page **Send this episode to YouTube.** opens. 11. Check the **YouTube readiness** list. **Episode is live**, **YouTube account connected**, **Video file available**, and **YouTube Video available** must show **Done**. 12. If the page shows **Connect YouTube**, select it and complete the Google sign-in. 13. Under **YouTube settings**, enter the **Channel ID**. The hint reads **Use the channel selected during YouTube connection.** The ID starts with UC. 14. Choose the **Privacy**: **Unlisted**, **Public**, or **Private**. The default is **Unlisted**. 15. Keep or change the **Category** number. The default is 22. 16. If the video is made for kids, select **This video is made for kids**. 17. Select **Submit to YouTube**. **Submit to YouTube** enables the same connection as **Enable** on the **YouTube Video** tile in the classic view, with these settings. After that, Podigee uploads the video file of each new episode when the episode goes live, as in the classic view. ### Expected result The page **Your episode is out in the world.** reads **The public page is ready, and YouTube distribution has started.** and lists **YouTube submission queued**. On the page **Send this episode to YouTube.**, the **Publishing status** card shows **This episode is queued for YouTube.**, then **YouTube is processing the upload.**, then **This episode is live on YouTube.** or **This episode was submitted to YouTube as private.** ### If you cannot complete the task * The **YouTube** card shows **Waiting** and **YouTube will be available after a video recording is ready.**: the recording is an audio file. YouTube needs a video file. * The card shows **Unavailable** and **YouTube is not available for this account right now.**: the plan of the podcast owner does not include video podcasts. * The card shows **Needs attention** and **YouTube setup could not be completed. Try again when you are ready.**: the popup window was blocked, or the sign-in did not complete. Allow popup windows and select **Set up YouTube** again. * The page **Your first episode is live.** has no **Continue to YouTube** button: the episode has no video file, or the plan does not include video podcasts. * You selected **Schedule episode**: the page **Your episode is scheduled.** has no YouTube step. Send the episode with the **YouTube Video** tile in the classic view after it goes live. * The page reads **Your episode is still being prepared.**: Podigee prepares the uploaded file. Wait until the page **Your first episode is live.** opens. * **Submit to YouTube** is disabled: one item in **YouTube readiness** shows **Needed**. Complete the item. * The page reads **We could not submit this episode to YouTube yet. Check the readiness items and try again.**: correct the **YouTube settings** and submit again. * **Publishing status** reads **YouTube needs attention before this episode can be submitted.** or **YouTube rejected this submission. Check the video and channel settings.**: open the **YouTube Video** tile in the classic view. The episode there shows the upload errors. * The sidebar marks **Reach** as **Not yet**, and the **Channels** page shows **We are still building this**: the podcast already exists.
