# Run a Spotify sponsorship

Prepare a standard or embedded video sponsorship for a Spotify-connected podcast in Podigee.

The Podigee Audio Video Ad Server can prepare a host-read sponsorship for an eligible Spotify video episode. You choose the sponsor, active period, episode, and insertion details in Podigee. Spotify makes the final booking and controls playback.

Spotify sponsorships use a different workflow from Spotify Direct Sales. They do not use a Direct Sales impression goal, CPM, or delivery mode. Keep the commercial agreement, value, and internal responsibility in the Podigee Campaign. Use this task to prepare the Spotify destination setup.

## Before you start

Confirm these requirements:

* The podcast has an enabled Spotify connection.
* Spotify has completed the show transfer.
* The connected account grants access to Spotify sponsorships.
* The podcast has at least one published Spotify video episode with verified media.
* The host reads the sponsor message and is visible during the message.
* The segment contains one sponsor message.

An embedded sponsorship needs a separate account capability. If the account has standard sponsorship access only, Podigee keeps the embedded option blocked.

## Open the sponsorship setup

Open **Monetization > Integrations**. Select the podcast, then find **Spotify revenue paths**. The **Spotify sponsorships** card shows **Available** only when the current account and podcast meet the known requirements. Select **Prepare sponsorship**.

![The current One Podigee Integrations page shows Spotify sponsorships as an available revenue path beside the other supported and unsupported Spotify capabilities.](https://2032417310-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbqUKO6lljHGzkEAzliPI%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-64e8ee0bd74ad626b1008fad5060c1c4cb48c9f9%2Fdoc-monetization-060-spotify-revenue-paths.png?alt=media)

*Podigee shows only the Spotify capabilities that the connected account can use.*

If the card is not available, review the Spotify connection, account access, and episode delivery state. Do not use another Spotify option as a substitute for a blocked sponsorship capability.

## Choose a sponsorship format

Podigee supports the two Spotify sponsorship formats that are available to the connected account.

| Format               | Sponsor message                                                            | Timing                                                                              | Separate media                                                        |
| -------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Standard sponsorship | Spotify inserts a separate host-read message at selected insertion points. | Start date and time, with an optional end date and time. | Host-read audio is required. A matching MP4 or MOV video is optional. |
| Embedded sponsorship | The host-read message is already part of one video episode. | Exact start and end positions in the episode, with an optional active-through date. | No separate sponsor media. |

Both formats are for Spotify video episodes in this workflow. A sponsorship that is baked into audio or video outside this Spotify tool remains part of the episode media and uses the applicable Podigee delivery workflow.

## Prepare a standard sponsorship

Use a standard sponsorship when Spotify must insert a separate sponsor message at one or more available insertion points.

1. Select **Standard sponsorship**.
2. Enter a clear sponsorship name and the sponsor name.
3. Set the start date and time.
4. Set the end date and time, or leave it blank for an agreement with no scheduled end.
5. Choose the available Spotify insertion points.
6. Add an optional HTTPS URL for a matching MP4 or MOV sponsor video.
7. Confirm the three host-read requirements.
8. Select **Prepare sponsorship**.

![The current One Podigee sponsorship setup shows a complete standard sponsorship with its sponsor, active period, selected Spotify insertion point, optional video fields, and host-read confirmations.](https://2032417310-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbqUKO6lljHGzkEAzliPI%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-07fa9100b6ed7ff5e4dde0900f4598fb117a79a7%2Fdoc-monetization-060-standard-sponsorship.png?alt=media)

*A standard sponsorship uses only insertion points that Spotify reports as bookable for the active period.*

Podigee checks the date range with Spotify before it sends the sponsorship. A selected insertion point cannot have another sponsorship during an overlapping period. Spotify permits no more than two sponsorships in one episode at the same time.

## Prepare an embedded sponsorship

Use an embedded sponsorship when the host-read message is already recorded in the episode. Spotify marks the exact segment and manages when that segment is active.

1. Select **Embedded sponsorship**.
2. Enter a clear sponsorship name and the sponsor name.
3. Select the published video episode.
4. Enter the position where the sponsor message starts, in seconds from the start of the episode.
5. Enter the position where the sponsor message ends.
6. Set an optional **Active through** date and select its time zone.
7. Confirm the three host-read requirements.
8. If you set an end date, confirm that Spotify may remove the embedded segment when the sponsorship ends.
9. Select **Prepare sponsorship**.

![The current One Podigee sponsorship setup shows a complete embedded sponsorship with its episode, exact segment positions, active-through date, time zone, and Spotify removal confirmation.](https://2032417310-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbqUKO6lljHGzkEAzliPI%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-8346fc92effe4e9eb3e789d3c230bd323151239a%2Fdoc-monetization-060-embedded-sponsorship.png?alt=media)

*The start and end values are positions inside the episode. The active-through value is a calendar date.*

The start position must be after the first 30 seconds. The end position must be later than the start position. When the sponsorship ends, Spotify may remove the segment between these positions from playback. Content before and after the segment remains available.

## Follow Spotify sponsorship rules

Podigee checks the information that it can verify before submission. You must also confirm the editorial facts that only your team knows.

* Do not place a sponsorship in the first 30 seconds of an episode.
* Do not run more than two sponsorships in one episode at the same time.
* Do not book two sponsorships against the same insertion point for overlapping dates.
* The host must speak the sponsor message.
* The host must be visible during the sponsor message.
* One sponsorship segment must contain one sponsor message.
* The show must meet Spotify's monetization rules.

Spotify does not accept a delivery objective for this sponsorship type. The sponsorship length is not limited by this API, but the message must still meet the commercial agreement and platform rules.

## Understand the provider boundary

When you select **Prepare sponsorship**, Podigee freezes the exact submitted choices and starts the Spotify operation. Podigee records the provider response as destination evidence. Spotify can take about 15 minutes to make a new sponsorship live.

Podigee does not claim that a prepared request is a delivered impression. Spotify remains responsible for:

* the final booking;
* insertion and playback;
* the active, scheduled, completed, or archived provider state;
* destination delivery counts;
* Spotify sponsorship reporting.

The current reviewed Spotify contract does not provide a complete reporting schema that Podigee can safely blend into Podigee-served revenue totals. Keep Spotify-reported results source-labeled until the connected account and reporting contract provide verified data.

## Resolve a blocked setup

Use the message in the setup to choose the next action.

| Message | What it means | What to do |
| ------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Account access is required | Spotify has not granted sponsorship access to this connection. | Ask your Spotify partner contact to enable and confirm the capability. |
| Embedded access is required | Standard sponsorships are available, but embedded sponsorships are not. | Use a standard sponsorship or request the embedded capability. |
| No verified Spotify video episode is ready | Podigee cannot find a published Spotify video episode with valid media evidence. | Publish the video episode and complete its media verification. |
| No insertion point is available | Spotify did not report a bookable insertion point for the selected period. | Review the episode insertion points or change the active period. |
| Spotify certification is required | The local or test connection cannot make this production request. | Complete the Spotify production credential and certification process. |
| Spotify is not available | Podigee cannot get a safe provider response. | Keep the setup unchanged and try again after the connection is healthy. |

Podigee fails closed when a provider capability or response is uncertain. It does not create an unrelated second sponsorship to hide an unknown result.

## Expected result

Podigee accepts the exact sponsorship setup and returns to the Spotify integration page. The page confirms that Podigee is submitting the sponsorship and will keep the provider outcome as evidence. Spotify then controls the booking and playback for the connected show.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.podigee.com/documentation/grow-and-monetize/monetization/run-a-spotify-sponsorship.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
