# Run house ads or cross-promotions

Use eligible unsold inventory for a house ad or cross-promotion without creating paid revenue.

Use a house flight when you want to promote your own show, product, event, or network message in eligible unsold inventory. A house flight is not a paid campaign. It uses the same delivery, rights, frequency, and measurement checks, but it has no contracted budget or paid revenue.

The current Podigee Ad Server does not use a separate cross-promotion object. Create a house flight and assign the approved internal creative. The delivery engine then treats the flight as house demand.

## Before you start

You need:

* Access to **Monetization > Campaigns** and permission to edit the Campaign.
* A published Inventory package with a delivery method that supports the selected media.
* An approved audio or video Creative for the house message.
* A break with an available slot, or a policy that allows house fill when paid demand is not available.
* A clear start time, end time, target markets, content categories, and frequency limit.

Do not use a house flight to hide a missing paid Campaign, bypass a price floor, or change the publisher rules for a break. Use the paid Campaign, policy, or break workflow for those changes.

## 1. Prepare the house Creative

1. Go to **Monetization > Creatives**.
2. Upload or select the audio or video master for the house message.
3. Confirm that the media checks pass and that the Creative is suitable for every intended format.
4. Confirm rights, disclosure text, language, and the time period in which Podigee may use it.
5. Preview the Creative before you assign it.

Use one Creative family for related audio and video versions when the message is the same. Keep a separate family when the wording, offer, or rights differ.

## 2. Add a house flight

1. Open **Monetization > Campaigns**.
2. Open the Campaign that owns the internal promotion, or create the internal Campaign record.
3. Select **Add flight**.
4. Choose the media kind, Inventory package, delivery destination, and Podigee delivery mode.
5. Enter the primary delivery goal, schedule, markets, and content categories.
6. Set the frequency cap, pacing, and priority for the house message.
7. Set **Guarantee class** to **House**.

House and makegood flights use a zero budget and a zero rate. Do not enter a paid CPM or a paid budget. The delivery goal still matters because it controls pacing and the remaining delivery work.

![The current One Podigee flight form shows schedule, targeting, frequency, pacing, priority, guarantee class, budget, and rate controls.](https://2032417310-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbqUKO6lljHGzkEAzliPI%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-aba2ed0523dbeee1892d5d96ffb1d0bc1d444a5e%2Fdoc-monetization-036-flight-delivery-controls.jpg?alt=media)

*Use the same delivery controls as a paid flight, then choose House and keep budget and rate at zero.*

8. Enter a reason such as **Network cross-promotion for the autumn schedule**.
9. Select **Propose flight**.

The flight must pass the same inventory, schedule, format, measurement, rights, and targeting checks as other flights. A zero budget does not bypass these checks.

## 3. Assign the Creative and publish the setup

1. Open the Campaign readiness page.
2. Select **Assign creative** for the house flight.
3. Choose the approved house Creative version for each required media format.
4. Open **Launch readiness**.
5. Resolve inventory, Creative coverage, break, and delivery blockers.
6. Complete the configured review, then publish the Campaign setup.

Do not publish a house flight with a missing Creative. If the flight supports both audio and video, check both versions. A video flight must have a video Creative, even when an audio fallback exists.

## 4. Decide when house demand can run

House delivery needs an eligible opportunity. It does not automatically replace every paid ad. Choose the behavior at the correct level:

### Demand order

1. Go to **Monetization > Monetization settings**.
2. Open **Revenue and data rules**.
3. Open the active demand routing rules.
4. Review **Demand order** and place **House campaigns** after paid demand unless the business rule requires house demand first.
5. Save, review, and publish the new policy version when the order changes.

Demand order controls which source is considered first. It does not remove the schedule, targeting, frequency, rights, or capacity checks for the house flight.

### No-fill behavior

When paid demand is not available, choose **Use an eligible house ad** when the show should promote an approved internal message. Choose **Keep the original content** when a house message must not run. A house fallback still needs an eligible Creative and a matching media format.

### Break fallback

1. Open **Monetization > Inventory > Break Canvas**.
2. Select the break and media format.
3. Review **If not every ad slot is filled** and **If no paid ad is available**.
4. Select the house promotion option only when the break may use the approved house flight.
5. Save the exact placement and complete the configured review.

![The current One Podigee Break Canvas shows controls for a break with two slots, a maximum duration, and behavior when paid demand is not available.](https://2032417310-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbqUKO6lljHGzkEAzliPI%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-d28c7d85200bc68dbb3253b2b1faacf10fb67866%2Fdoc-monetization-025-break-capacity-and-fallback.jpg?alt=media)

*Break fallback chooses what happens when paid demand leaves a slot empty. It does not create a house flight.*

If the break has no eligible house Creative, the system follows the safe clean-content behavior. It must not insert an unapproved or incompatible asset.

## 5. Check delivery and reporting

After the Campaign is live:

1. Open the Campaign and read **Delivery, pace, and revenue**.
2. Open **Explain delivery** when you need to see a decision for one request.
3. Check for the outcome **House ad selected** and confirm the Creative and break.
4. Open **Evidence & Money** to report delivered units, media format, market, and time window.

House delivery appears as delivery evidence. It does not create paid revenue, paid spend, or a paid buyer invoice. Keep house delivery separate from paid Campaign results when you compare yield or prepare a settlement report.

## Change or stop a house promotion

* To stop new house decisions, pause the house flight or remove its Creative assignment. Keep the existing version for evidence.
* To change the message, upload and approve a new Creative version. Do not replace the media file in place.
* To change the target or frequency, create a new flight version and re-run readiness checks.
* To keep paid delivery safe, do not change the paid demand order only to stop one house message. Change the house flight or the house fallback rule instead.

## Common problems

| Problem | What it means | What to do |
| -------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| House is not selected | The flight is still paid or uses another guarantee class. | Edit or create a flight with **Guarantee class: House**. |
| Budget or rate error | A house flight has a paid amount. | Set both budget and rate to zero. |
| No house ad is delivered | No eligible Creative, break slot, or matching delivery surface exists. | Check Creative status, media format, break capacity, schedule, rights, and targeting. |
| Paid ads are displaced | House demand is first in the active demand order or has higher priority. | Review demand order and the house flight priority. Keep paid demand first unless the business rule says otherwise. |
| House delivery has revenue | The report mixes house and paid results, or the flight is not classified as House. | Check the flight guarantee class and report filters. House delivery must have zero paid budget and revenue. |
| A break stays empty | The fallback is clean content, or the house flight is not eligible. | Read the decision explanation. Do not force a Creative into the break. |

## Result

The internal message is delivered only in eligible unsold opportunities. It follows the selected priority, pacing, frequency, rights, and fallback rules. Delivery evidence shows where it ran, while paid revenue and settlement records remain unchanged.

Next, read [Monitor delivery, pacing, fill, and revenue](/documentation/grow-and-monetize/monetization/monitor-delivery-pacing-fill-and-revenue.md) to compare house delivery with paid demand. Then read [Preview and inspect Creative media](/documentation/grow-and-monetize/monetization/preview-and-inspect-creative-media.md) to check another house Creative.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.podigee.com/documentation/grow-and-monetize/monetization/run-house-ads-or-cross-promotions.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
