# Understand sellable inventory

Learn how shows, episodes, media, ad breaks, slots, and Inventory packages become supply that your team can sell.

The Podigee Audio Video Ad Server turns authorized podcast content into supply that an advertising team can plan, forecast, and book. In the product, this supply is called **inventory**.

Inventory is more than an audio file, a video file, or an empty position in an episode. It becomes sellable only when Podigee can identify the content, confirm the available media and delivery methods, apply the publisher's rules, and measure the expected volume and delivery cost.

## The inventory structure

Podigee uses the following structure:

| Level | What it means |
| --------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Show** | The podcast that owns the content and the commercial rights. |
| **Episode** | One published item in the show. An episode can have audio, video, or both. |
| **Media format** | The exact audio or video version that Podigee can deliver. |
| **Delivery surface** | The supported way to deliver and measure the media, such as podcast audio delivery, Podigee video streaming, or Apple Podcasts video ads. |
| **Ad break** | An approved position before, during, or after the episode where advertising may run. |
| **Slot** | One advertising opportunity inside an ad break. A break can contain one or more slots. |
| **Inventory package** | A reusable commercial offer that groups authorized supply by show, formats, markets, dates, capacity, cost, and delivery rules. |

The hierarchy keeps editorial and commercial decisions separate. A producer decides where an ad break is safe. An ad operator decides how many ads the break can contain and which Inventory package may offer that capacity.

## What makes inventory sellable

Podigee checks the complete package before it can become available for booking.

### Authorized content

The workspace must have authority to use the show and its episode media for monetization. A show does not appear as a ready source when its media is missing, still processing, or no longer authorized.

### Ready audio or video

The selected episode must have a delivery-ready audio or video version. An audio-only show can offer audio inventory. A show with ready audio and video can offer either format or both.

### Supported delivery and measurement

Each selected format must have a supported delivery method and a measurement rule. The Inventory page shows these methods on the package. For example, a package can support podcast audio delivery, Podigee video streaming, and Apple Podcasts video ads.

### Safe ad breaks and slots

An ad break defines a safe editorial boundary. The break also defines which media it applies to, its maximum duration, its slot count, and what happens when no paid ad is available.

*Break controls keep the position, media coverage, slot capacity, duration, and fallback behavior together.*

### Markets and sales window

The package states where and when the supply may be sold. Markets restrict commercial use to the selected countries. The sales window prevents the package from being used outside its approved dates.

### Capacity and delivery cost

Capacity is the estimated number of qualified audio impressions or video starts that the package can offer. Delivery cost is the estimated infrastructure cost per 1,000 units. A confidence level shows how reliable the current estimate is.

These values support forecasting and pricing decisions. They do not replace actual delivery and revenue evidence after a Campaign starts.

### Publisher rules and review

Publisher rules can restrict brands, categories, markets, formats, and demand sources. The active review rule decides whether one authorized operator can confirm the package or another person must approve it.

## What an Inventory package contains

An Inventory package gives sales and ad operations one stable commercial definition. A published package contains:

* The source show and its authorized supply lineage.
* Audio, video, or both.
* Supported delivery and measurement methods.
* Allowed markets and the sales window.
* Estimated capacity for each media type.
* Estimated delivery cost, currency, and confidence.
* The publisher and the rules that apply to the supply.
* The exact reviewed and published package version.

Preparing a package creates a draft. It does not change live delivery and it does not make the supply bookable. Podigee first checks that the content, formats, measurement, capacity, and cost evidence are complete. The operator then completes the required review and publishes the package.

*The published package is the commercial unit that Campaign planning and forecasting can use.*

## Read the package card

Use the package card to check the current commercial state:

* **Package version** identifies the current published revision.
* **Published** means the package passed its sellability check and required review.
* **Formats** shows whether the package offers audio, video, or both.
* **Markets** shows where the package may be sold.
* **Sales window** shows when bookings may use it.
* **Delivery methods** shows how Podigee can deliver and measure the selected media.
* **Volume and delivery economics** shows capacity, cost per 1,000, currency, and confidence.
* **Published and ready for booking** confirms that Campaign planning can use the package.

*Capacity and delivery cost give planners the supply and cost basis they need before they reserve inventory.*

The short reference beside the package state helps operators distinguish versions without reading a full technical identifier. Use the copy control only when support, audit, or integration work needs the complete reference.

## Inventory states

| State | Meaning | What to do next |
| --------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Draft** | The package exists, but it is not available for booking. | Check sellability. |
| **Check in progress** | Podigee is checking the exact package version. | Wait for the result, then refresh the page. |
| **Ready for commercial approval** | Content, formats, measurement, capacity, and cost evidence passed the check. | Complete the required review. |
| **Published** | The approved package is active for its sales window. | Use it in forecasting, Campaigns, or Marketplace work. |
| **Blocked** | One or more required facts or capabilities are missing. | Follow the displayed reason and repair the source, rule, capacity, or authority. |

## If supply is not sellable

* **The show is not listed:** Publish an episode and wait until its audio or video delivery files are ready. Also confirm that the workspace has authority for the show.
* **A media format is unavailable:** Prepare the missing audio or video source, or remove that format from the package.
* **No measurable delivery method is available:** Complete the required delivery and measurement setup for the selected format.
* **Capacity or cost is missing:** Add a positive capacity estimate and a nonnegative delivery cost for every selected format.
* **The market or sales window is invalid:** Select at least one allowed market and enter a complete date range.
* **The sellability check fails:** Keep the draft, repair the named problem, and run the check again.
* **Review is required:** Complete the Solo confirmation or ask an authorized reviewer, according to the workspace rule.

## Result

Sellable inventory connects the content that Podigee hosts with the commercial work that an ad operator performs. A published Inventory package gives Campaigns, forecasts, reservations, and Marketplace deals one controlled definition of the supply that may be sold.

Next, learn how to assess first-party podcast supply before you create or update a package.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.podigee.com/documentation/grow-and-monetize/monetization/understand-sellable-inventory.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
