# Update episode metadata

Change supported episode metadata through a reviewed preview and verify the saved fields.

Read the current episode and send only the fields you intend to change.

## Before you start

* Keep the episode ID and confirm its podcast ID.
* Confirm edit access to the podcast.
* Read the current episode.
* Prepare one stable idempotency key.

## Update the metadata

1. Ask your agent to preview `update_episode` with the episode ID, changed attributes, and `dry_run: true`.
2. Review the normalized attributes and exact target.
3. Confirm that collection fields contain the complete intended replacement when supplied.
4. Confirm the exact preview with `dry_run: false` and the same idempotency key.
5. Submit the update once.
6. Read the episode again and compare every changed field with the preview.

Supported fields include titles, descriptions, show notes, authors, artwork, numbering, slug, explicit setting, GUID, external URL, episode type, ad and video settings, labels, keywords, contributors, chapter marks, and transcript segments.

## Expected result

Only the supplied supported fields change on the intended episode.

## If validation fails

Correct the named field and request a new preview. Do not replace missing values with guesses or remove unrelated metadata.

## Next step

[Inspect an episode](/documentation/start-here/ai-agents/manage-episodes/inspect-an-episode.md) to verify the saved state.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.podigee.com/documentation/start-here/ai-agents/manage-episodes/update-episode-metadata.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
