# Activate, deactivate, or delete a listener

Restore, pause, or permanently remove one private-feed listener.

Choose the least destructive action that meets the access goal.

## Before you start

* List listeners and keep the exact listener ID.
* Confirm the podcast and current listener status.
* Confirm the user's intended outcome.

## Choose an action

| Action       | Result                                                |
| ------------ | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| `activate` | Sets the listener status to active. |
| `deactivate` | Sets the status to inactive and preserves the record. |
| `delete`     | Permanently removes the listener record.              |

## Apply the action

1. Preview `update_listener_status` with the listener ID and action.
2. Review the exact listener and proposed status.
3. Prefer deactivation when access might be restored later.
4. For deletion, review and submit the returned confirmation.
5. List listeners again and verify the result.

Activation and deactivation return the changed record. Deletion returns the removed record with `deleted: true`.

## Expected result

The intended listener has the reviewed active, inactive, or deleted state.

## If the wrong listener appears

Do not continue. Return to the filtered listener list and select the correct ID.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.podigee.com/documentation/start-here/ai-agents/manage-private-feed-access/activate-deactivate-or-delete-a-listener.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
