# Enable or disable feed protection

Preview and apply a podcast feed-protection change after reviewing listener impact.

Use `manage_feed_access` to change the protection state of one podcast.

## Before you start

* Find and inspect the podcast.
* Confirm edit permission.
* Confirm that the plan includes protected podcasts when enabling protection.
* Review current listeners and how the change affects access.

## Change feed protection

1. Call `manage_feed_access` with the podcast ID.
2. Set `feed_protection` to `enable` or `disable`.
3. Set `dry_run` to `true` and review `proposed_protected`.
4. Confirm the exact podcast and listener effect.
5. Submit the returned confirmation once.
6. Run `manage_feed_access` again without a change and verify `feed_info.protected`.

## Expected result

The podcast reports the reviewed protection state. Existing listener records remain available for inspection and management.

## If enabling is blocked

Confirm the plan entitlement and podcast edit permission. The blocked result names the protected-podcasts plan entitlement, and upgrading the plan enables private feeds.

## If disabling is requested

Explain that the normal feed becomes available without listener credentials. Do not treat disabling protection as a way to revoke one listener. Deactivate that listener instead.
